Chelsea have been dealt a blow in the pursuit to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey in the new year, The Metro reports via Kicker.
It’s expected that the Blues will endure a busy upcoming transfer window as Bailey is just one name on Antonio Conte’s shortlist.
When speaking to German news outlet Kicker, Leverkusen director Jonas Boldt has denied the “insane” reports of the prospect leaving the German side.
Boldt is quoted by The Metro saying:
“There is no offer for Leon. We have absolutely no thought of selling him. He has a contract until 2022 and we are on the driver’s seat.”
Chelsea need to strengthen but is Bailey the right man?
There’s no doubt that the performances from the likes of Pedro and Willian have raised some uncertainties from fans.
Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata have been Chelsea’s clear assets. This highlights the need to strengthen our squad in attack.
Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez was linked to Chelsea by The Metro in October. Despite his potential, Bailey is not on the same level as Mahrez.
Conte may now be forced to look to alternatives as Bailey looks like he is staying put.
