Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski is a potential transfer target for Chelsea, according to the Daily Star.

Tarkowski has had to work his way up the football leagues in order to become an established Premier League defender. The Englishman, whose grandfather was from Poland, hence the surname, began at Oldham Athletic, before moving onto Brentford and ultimately Burnley.

Burnley’s back-line has been the foundation of their success in recent seasons, and Tarkowski has been an integral member of it. His good performances at Turf Moor appear to have captured the attention of two of the Premier League’s household names.

As per the Daily Star, both Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in signing Tarkowski from Burnley. The tabloid report that Sean Dyche’s side will likely demand a fee in the region of £30M if they are to part with the 25-year-old.

After the return of Andreas Christensen and the arrival of Antonio Rudiger, there is no dire need for defensive reinforcements at Stamford Bridge. Gary Cahill could soon start to be phased out, however, and Tarkowski is more than good enough to step into his boots.
