Chelsea have been handed a major blow in our pursuit of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
Koulibaly has been continually linked with a move to Chelsea over the past two-years. His ability to play out from the back is believed to have left Antonio Conte salivating.
The Italian has not been provided with the financial resources required to prise Koulibaly away from Napoli, though. He instead was forced to settle for AS Roma’s Antonio Rudiger, who himself has proven to be a worthy acquisition.
With Maurizio Sarri leading the race to replace Conte as Chelsea manager, links to Koulibaly have (inevitably) reemerged.
However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has ruled out the possibility of Koulibaly leaving the club this summer. It doesn’t look as though any amount of cash will be enough to sign the Senegalese.
When quizzed about the possibility of Koulibaly leaving the Stadio San Paolo this summer, De Laurentiis is quoted by the Express saying:
Sarri will have to look elsewhere in his efforts to strengthen our defence, should he take charge as expected this summer.
