Chelsea have set their sights on Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in their efforts to replace Diego Costa, according to the Guardian.
As per the Guardian, Chelsea are confident that the deal to take Costa to Atletico Madrid will be concluded, with the Spanish international being granted an extension to his pre-season while negotiations continue.
That leaves Antonio Conte in dire need of a new centre-forward, and he may well look to one of Costa’s international teammates. The Guardian believe that Morata is now Chelsea’s priority to replace their outgoing hitman.
The Guardian report that Conte has been a long-term admirer of Morata, who almost joined Chelsea last summer before returning to Real Madrid. It is reported that the Chelsea boss has asked the board to pursue a £70M deal to bring Morata to SW6.
It looks as though Costa’s time as a Chelsea player will soon come to an end, only time will tell if Morata is the man to replace him.
