Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Chelsea, the Daily Mail reports.
The 24-year-old has scored three goals so far this season for the Serbian club.
Boakye is known by Antonio Conte after a short time at Juventus but couldn’t make an impact at the Italian club.
Boakye would be competing with Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi at Stamford Bridge. You can back either of the Blues hitmen for first goalscorer this weekend in the free-to-play Hotshot Jackpot to be in with the chance of winning £275K! Click here to play.
The Daily Mail understands a host of other British clubs are interested in the Ghanaian. Celtic, Swansea City and Crystal Palace are among those that will have to rival us in January to sign the striker.
Chelsea scouts will be sent over to the Serbian capital to watch the hosts play Arsenal in the Europa League next Thursday.
It’s highly unlikely Boakye will be a starter straight away. However, he would offer further depth in the centre-forward position. Sky Sports reported that there was interest in Fernando Llorente but the club failed in our pursuit of the Spaniard.
Signing a striker would be good for the rest of the season but may have an impact on the future of Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.
