Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay the release clause of Inter Milan goal-machine Mauro Icardi this summer.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Chelsea are in need of a new centre-forward. Alvaro Morata has proven himself unable to lead the lead, spending the majority of his debut Premier League campaign on the floor. Olivier Giroud enjoyed a purple patch at the tail end of the season, but he is not the long-term fix to our problems upfront.

Icardi could be. At 25-years-old and on the back of a 29-goal season, few would argue against the acquisition of the Argentine. According to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea are extremely interested in signing him this summer. So interested, in fact, that Roman Abramovich is prepared to pay his €110M release clause in full.

This is the calibre of player we ought to be targeting. It’s claimed Juventus are also interested, and it’d be hard to battle with their attraction, especially to a player who has played in the Serie A and witnessed their dominance. Financially, however, we can challenge them, and it looks like we will.
