We’re already halfway through the January transfer window, but you get the feeling that Chelsea’s winter business is only just getting started.

Ross Barkley signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Premier League champions after completing his move from Everton – but there has been little more activity, which seems absurd.

The title will be heading to Manchester, that has been clear for a while now, but we are still in three cup competitions, with a squad which does not appear to be equipped to compete in them.

There is still plenty of work to done, and plenty of time to do it. Here’s three signings that Chelsea could make before the end of the transfer window that could save our season.

1. Alexis Sanchez

The BBC reported on Monday morning that Manchester United are favourites to sign Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez. The report claims that Manchester City are thought to be viewed as Sanchez’s ideal destination, but he is more likely to make the switch to the other side of the city.

Bizarrely, there is no mention of any Chelsea interest. Sanchez is one of the best wingers in the world and one of the best players in the Premier League. He would take our attack to the next level, yet we do not appear to have any desire to bring him in.

Chelsea ought to look at hijacking this deal and sign Sanchez. The BBC report that the asking price is ‘just’ £35M, which is an affordable figure for a player of his quality. The prospect of him lining up in attack alongside Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata is utterly mouthwatering.
