The sudden rush of signing both Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix in the weeks since has made everyone forget that Chelsea wre locked in talks over a new backup left back not long ago.
Pep Chavarria was a total unknown to most fans – a 28 year old Rayo Vallecano left back who has spent much of his career in the Spanish second tier. Doesn’t sound like a hard deal to do, does it?
But here we are weeks later, and things have gone very cold. We turned to our writer Simon Phillips for an update.
Chelsea sit back and hope top target forced move
He says that Chelsea have yet to move on to another target from Chavarria, despite the trail obviously going very cold. They have “not tried for any other target.” Lewis Hall is their dream target, and there are other they’d consider including Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carerras. But they consider the £18m they offered for Chavarria fair, and are now seemingly waiting to see if Rayo change their minds.
It was noted that Chavarria didn’t feature at all for Rayo in their friendly yesterday. Is this the the first sign he could be on the way?
