Chelsea may well have been handed a major boost in our efforts to keep hold of Eden Hazard this summer in the shape of Julen Lopetegui’s appointment.

It’s been a rollercoaster 24-hours for Lopetegui. On Tuesday afternoon he was confirmed as Zinedine Zidane’s successor at Real Madrid. The news did not sit well with the Spanish football association, who made the decision to sack him just one day before the start of the World Cup.

At least he will be given more time to think about the task at hand at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he will likely get straight involved in the club’s transfer business. Let’s hope he has a considerable influence, as he reportedly does not see Eden Hazard as a suitable target.

That’s according to Don Balon, who admittedly are not renown for their reliability. Let’s hope their information is correct this time, as they believe that Hazard, though of interest to Florentino Perez, is not wanted by Lopetegui. Real are instead likely to move for Kylian Mbappe or Robert Lewandowski.

If true, this is great news.
