Chelsea are going to have to break the bank in order to sign Southampton centre-back Virgil Van Dijk this summer, according to Yahoo Sport.
Yahoo Sport believe that the Premier League champions are interested in adding Van Dijk to their back-line, and have stepped up their attempts to secure his signature in the past few days.
However, Yahoo Sport report that Southampton’s majorly inflated asking price is proving to be somewhat of a stumbling block – with the Saints thought to be demanding an eye-watering £65M.
As per Yahoo Sport, the Southampton hierarchy are continually insisting that Van Dijk is not for sale, but they have been holding talks with Chelsea behind the scenes, and have informed the Blues that they are prepared to sell for the right price.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea have any interest in meeting his ridiculous asking price, but unfortunately in modern football, you have to open your chequebook in order to stay ahead of the chasing pack.
