Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has compared new signing Alvaro Morata to one of the greatest centre-forwards ever to grace the Premier League, report the Metro.
Cascarino scored over 250 goals during his professional career, he is more than qualified to share his opinion when it comes to strikers – and that’s exactly what he’s done.
Earlier this month, Chelsea signed Spain international Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, in a deal the Metro believe was worth a club-record £60M.
With that sort of transfer fee comes plenty of expectation, and although Morata certainly didn’t need anymore pressure on his young shoulders, Cascarino has added to it.
Cascarino is quoted by the Metro comparing Morata to former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy:
“He can score with both feet and reminds me a bit of Ruud van Nistelrooy but isn’t quite as good a poacher. A lot of his goals will be scored in the box with first-time finishes and reaction shots.”
van Nistelrooy etched his name into Premier League history during a five-year stint at Old Trafford, making 150 appearances in England’s top-tier and finding the back of the net on 95 occasions.
If Morata scales those lofty heights during his Chelsea career, we’re in for a treat.
