Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was unlikely to play against Huddersfield Town even with doubts over a minor back injury, The Telegraph reports.
The Belgian wasn’t even in Antonio Conte’s squad for the 1-1 draw with the Terriers on Wednesday night as the club suffered a major setback in hopes of a Champions League spot next season.
Courtois, who has just one year left on his current deal with the Blues at the end of this season, has been continuously linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.
It remains to be seen whether this is a case of player power of Conte simply wanted to rest the team’s first choice shot-stopper for Sunday’s game away to Newcastle United.
Whilst Courtois’ attitude this season hasn’t been positive at all as he continues to speak of his family currently living in the Spanish capital, the 25-year-old still has a contract here whether he likes it or not.
If Courtois does leave Chelsea at the end of the season, hopefully it’s on our terms and we can sign an adequate replacement for last season’s Premier League golden gloves winner.
