Here’s the news we’ve all been waiting for… Thibaut Courtois has confirmed that he will be a Chelsea player next season.
Over the past weeks and months there has been relentless speculation linking Courtois with a summer move to Real Madrid. However, the lanky Belgian has now put those rumours to bed by verbally committing his future to the Premier League champions.
Courtois is quoted by Football London saying:
“I have one year contract and feel good at Chelsea, and at the end of the season we sit down together and set a good vision, I live there quietly and know that I will be at Chelsea next year as well.”
Courtois has received a lot of flak from Chelsea fans for his reluctance to sign a new contract, as well as the constant flirting with a move to Spain. However, he appears to be prepared to stay in West London and fight for titles.
This is the best possible news from a Chelsea standpoint. Hopefully Courtois’ willingness to continue as a Chelsea player will prompt close friend and compatriot Eden Hazard to do the same!
This is just the beginning of Courtois’ chapter as a Chelsea player, let’s hope the rest of it involved plenty more silverware.
