Eden Hazard has once again talked about his admiration for Zinedine Zidane.
The Chelsea star admits that it would be a dream to play for Zidane in the future, Sky Sports report. Hazard looked up to the former Ballon D’Or winner as a boy and has set his sights on linking up with the Frenchman.
In 2015, Zidane praised Hazard saying that ‘he enjoys everything he does on the pitch’ when speaking to fifa.com. The 45-year-old has achieved great things since taking the reign at Real Madrid leading the club to back to back Champions League titles and winning La Liga last season.
When speaking to Belgian TV Channel RTL, Hazard expressed his hopes of one day playing under Zidane. However, the 26-year-old is still committed to playing for Chelsea at the moment.
Sky Sports quotes Hazard saying:
“To play under Zidane would be a dream. I am enjoying life at Chelsea. I still have a lot of things to achieve with them. I am focused on playing for Chelsea.”
As per Sky Sports, Hazard also wouldn’t rule out the chance of playing for his former boss Jose Mourinho again. Hopefully, that won’t be at Manchester United.
The importance of wrapping up a new contract for Hazard
It may seem like a long time away, but Hazard’s Chelsea contract ends in the summer of 2020. The Telegraph reported in September that the club were confident a new deal would be confirmed. However, talks have somewhat stalled as there has been no progress on wrapping up an extension for Hazard.
The departure of technical director Michael Emenalo was a shock to the system but it’s the club’s director Marina Granovskaia who is responsible for negotiating player’s contracts.
An extended contract not only confirms Hazard’s loyalty to the club but also boosts his market value. Although, it’s uncertain as to how much the Blues value the player at for now, but we’re talking about an astronomical fee.
