Chelsea academy product Lewis Baker has signed a contract extension before joining Middlesbrough on loan, report the club’s website.
It is revealed on the club’s website that Baker will spend the 2017/18 campaign on loan at the Riverside. He also extended his stay with the Blues by five years before departing.
Boro may seem like a step down from playing regular football, and excelling, in the Eredivisie, but there is plenty of logic behind it.
The Championship is arguably the most competitive football league on the planet, and there is no better place for Baker to prepare for life in the Premier League.
He is also guaranteed minutes, whereas they would be far more difficult to promise if he was playing for a top-flight side.
We have no doubt that Baker will continue to showcase his supreme talent, and fingers crossed he can force his way into Antonio Conte’s thinking for 2018/19.
