Antonio Conte was, understandably, furious following Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Champions League group stage.
It initially appeared as though the Premier League champions would win their group at a canter, following victories over Qarabag and Atletico Madrid. However, after a draw and a defeat at the hand of Serie A heavyweights AS Roma – things are looking less straightforward.
The dismal performance in Rome was a stark reminder of how far we are behind many of our European counterparts, and it looks as though the game left Conte utterly enraged.
According to the Telegraph, the Chelsea squad received the famous ‘hairdryer treatment’, during which Conte made it clear to his players that a performance like that could never happen again.
The Telegraph claim that virtually every player involved in the meeting at the Cobham training ground felt Conte’s wrath – even Kenedy, who did not play in the loss at the Stadio Olimpico. It is mentioned in the report that the Brazilian was in fact caught yawning, which Conte did not take kindly to.
Let’s hope Conte’s fury gave them a wake up call ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United. Especially as the Red Devils could be welcoming back Paul Pogba after his long-term absence.
