Virgil Van Dijk may not be risked for Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea in the EFL Cup tonight.

Van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the country. He proved his quality during his time as a Southampton player, convincing Liverpool to spend an enormous amount on recruiting him.

The Dutchman has been worth every penny, and if anything, has improved while playing at Anfield. Whoever will be leading the Chelsea line tonight will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp leaves him out.

There is a real possibility of Van Dijk remaining sidelined, too. Physio Room report that he faced a late fitness test before a final decision is made on whether he will be available to feature.

With Liverpool facing Chelsea once again at the weekend in the Premier League, Klopp may be tempted to rest Van Dijk in order to have him fully fit for the more important fixture. We shall see…
