Reports by France Football suggested that Barcelona had turned their attention to Chelsea winger Willian. The Catalan giants are thought to be interested in signing him after a move for Ousmane Dembele hit an iceberg, according to the report.
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has warned Chelsea against selling the Brazil international this summer. The shot-stopper believes that the paper thin squad Chelsea have could become worse if he is sold.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (via Daily Star), Shay Given said,“Willian would be a good target for Barcelona, [but] Chelsea can’t afford to let him go, they need to strengthen their squad a bit more. Willian will probably look at 15 games last season, it wasn’t enough game time for him personally.”
SkyBet have Chelsea favourites to sign Leicester City winger, Riyad Mahrez. If Mahrez, or any other winger, does arrive, it would raise a major question mark over the future of Willian at Stamford Bridge. The 29-year-old has lost the backing of much of the Chelsea faithful recently due to his ineffectiveness and lack of cutting-edge in comparison to Pedro.
Willian, who was signed from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, has been a regular for the Stamford Bridge outfit, and was named as the club’s player of the year in 2015/16. Could this be the end for him?
