Chelsea’s major signing of the summer so far came from Serie A, and it looks like the Blues could go back to Italy for more additions.
TuttoMercatoWeb are today claiming that the Blues have their sights set on Honest Ahanor, the Atalanta defender. Still just 18, the centre back is showing a lot of promise, and has already featured for the Italy senior team, as well as establishing himself as a regular for Atalanta last season.
There aren’t many players of that age playing regularly in that position in Europe.
Chelsea need to clear centre-back log jam

Chelsea’s problem right now is that they have too many centre backs. They need to start shifting them before they even think about adding new players in that position,
At the moment, adding a teenager defender isn’t going to help improve the first XI, and that needs to be the focus right now after yet another season of lacklustre play in the back line. Ahanor looks a real talent, but he’s not what Chelsea need right now.
Unless there is a slew of sales in the next few weeks, we can’t see this one happening.
