Antonio Conte has discussed the possibility of Chelsea making a shock move to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.
Vardy’s fairytale rise to the top of the game is one that you will all be familiar with. Just a few years ago he was playing non-league football, and now he has a Premier League winners medal under his belt.
His combative and relentless style of play is something that is difficult not to admire. It were those to qualities that made Diego Costa such a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge. Not to mention they are two of the deadliest in front of goal you are likely to find anywhere in the world.
Costa’s return to Atletico Madrid has left a void at Chelsea, there is no denying it. Replacing his influence will be difficult, but Vardy is someone that the club should definitely be looking at as a relatively affordable option to improve our attacking options.
However, when asked whether Vardy is in the frame to become a Chelsea player, Conte is quoted by The Sport Review revealing that he is not a player who has been discussed behind the scenes at Cobham:
“No, honestly we didn’t speak about him, but I repeat we are talking about a really good player.”
Conte did, however, go on to pile the praise onto the fiery England international, as The Sport Review report:
“For sure Vardy is a really good player and I don’t like to speak about players of other teams, but in this case we are not talking about transfer market. I appreciate a lot this player because he is a really good player, Vardy.”
Perhaps Conte is sending a message to the Chelsea board here…
