Chelsea appear to be in the hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions’ back-line has been more sturdy than the norm in recent weeks, but we have been forced to sacrifice much of our creativity in attack in order to limit the opportunities of the opposing team.

Thinking back to the embarrassments to AFC Bournemouth and Watford earlier this year, our flimsy defence capitulated and subsequently taken advantage of.

Chelsea were defeated 3-0 by AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Roman Abramovich appears to have sprung into action to help plug the holes in Conte’s leaky defence. As per the Mirror, Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly is high up on the shopping list.

It’s claimed that Chelsea, along with Arsenal, are interested in signing the Senegal international – but he won’t come cheap. It was claimed by the Mirror back in 2016 that we had offered £50M in exchange for Kouliably, but that wasn’t enough to convince Napoli to part with him.

Two years on, it remains to be seen if they’ll accept less, or demand even more, for the in-form defensive titan.
