Chelsea and Liverpool are both reportedly interested in signing Cagliari midfielder Nicolò Barella this summer.
At 21-years-old, you could be forgiven for thinking that Barella is still a rookie. He’s not.
The Italian has already made 65 appearances in Serie A, proving himself as one of the most exciting young prospects in his native country.
The sheer amount of interest in signing him in Italy is testament to how impressive he has been for Cagliari. Calciomercato report that AS Roma, Juventus and Inter Milan are all ‘strongly interested’ in signing him.
They will have to compete with the financial pull that the Premier League has to offer, though. According to La Nuova Sardegna, both Chelsea and Liverpool have been monitoring Barella and could make a move to sign him this summer.
A move to Stamford Bridge would likely not be the intelligent next step for his career, considering he would be loaned out almost immediately. Then again, following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho, he’s not likely to get any game-time at Anfield.
