Chelsea are looking to complete a deal to sign AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this week, according to the Daily Mail.
As per the Daily Mail, Monaco are demanding £40M plus performance related add-ons, with Chelsea only, so far, offering £37M. However, the tabloid believe that the deal is close, and may go through this week.
It is reported, however, that Antonio Conte has concerns over Bakayoko’s fitness. The Daily Mail reveal that Bakayoko underwent surgery on his knee at the tail end of last season, and may miss the start of the 2017/18 campaign. This has delayed the Frenchman undergoing a medical with the Blues.
The Daily Mail believe that Bakayoko may not travel with the Chelsea squad for their pre-season tour in the Far East, and Conte is fearful that he may not be ready for August 12th, when Chelsea face Burnley in the season’s curtain raiser.
Signing an injured player, on paper, may look like a strange move. But Bakayoko has the ability to develop into one of the best midfielders in the world, he’ll be worth the wait.
