Chelsea centre-back David Luiz has laughed off rumours that he could join FC Porto this summer.

Luiz’s long-term future as a Chelsea player is in doubt. He has just a year remaining on his contract with the club, and having missed the majority of last season through injury, he has his work cut-out to earn an extension to his current deal.

Chelsea may well look to cash-in this summer while Luiz’s market value is still relatively high. It’s unclear who would be interested in signing the Brazilian, but one thing’s for sure, he will not be an FC Porto player come the start of next season.

Luiz took to Instagram to squash speculation that he could join FC Porto this summer, reaffirming his loyalty to former side S.L. Benfica.

Translation: “The history of FC Porto is more of a newspaper lie, the same ones that ask for interviews many times !! Haha. BENFICA always in the heart !!!”

Perhaps last season’s Primeira Liga runners-up could make a move to re-sign the 31-year-old during the current transfer window. Though, we imagine he’d have to take a considerable pay-cut to get the deal done.
