Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Midfield may well be an area that Antonio Conte looks to build on in the summer – if he’s still Chelsea manager, that is. Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley have struggled to make an impact since joining the club, meaning we’re still short in that area.

A previous report suggested that we were set to battle Arsenal for the services of Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante. There is another new name in the mix following information provided by Portuguese outlet A Bola.

A Bola claim (via The Sun) that Chelsea are chasing Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Liverpool and Tottenham are also thought to be keen, but it’s the West London side who have the edge in the race to sign him.

The only potential catch is the price. Fernandes has an eye-watering £88M release clause in his contract. You have to assume that’s a price that we’d have no interest in paying.
