Chelsea have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson.

That’s according to the Mirror, who claim that the Blues are preparing a contingency plan in case of the departure of Thibaut Courtois. Courtois has been linked with a return to Real Madrid this summer, with his family still living in the city and Chelsea missing out on Champions League qualification. Not to mention that he has just 12-months remaining on his contract with the West London side.

Few goalkeepers worldwide are capable of filling the void that Courtois would leave behind, should he move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Alisson is one of them, hence reported interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool. The Brazil no.1 was superb for AS Roma last season and his stock in the football world has subsequently sky-rocketed.

AS Roma are thought to be demanding a fee in the region of £60M, which would be a new world-record fee for a goalkeeper. Despite his contract situation, you have to assume that Chelsea would demand a similar figure for Courtois, one of our prize possessions. This situation is one to keep an eye on as the summer transfer window develops.
