Chelsea have endured a difficult start to their title defence, and it looks as though the board are going to spring into action in hope of turning our fortunes around.
According to the Mirror, Roman Abramovich is preparing to open his chequebook once again in the January transfer window to reinforce Antonio Conte’s squad.
One of the names on the Blues’ transfer wish-list, as per the Mirror’s report, is Everton midfielder Ross Barkley. Here we go again…
The tabloid claim that the Toffees will be more inclined to cash-in during the upcoming transfer window, rather than watching him leave for free when his contract expires in the summer.
Barkley has not played a minute this season as he continues to recover from a serious muscle injury. His quality and potential cannot be doubted, though, and it seems likely that he’ll be jetting off with the England national team to the World Cup next year.
Chelsea will not stop there, though. The Mirror claim that Conte does not trust Michy Batshuayi, and is in the market for a new centre-forward. Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke and Richmond Boakye of Red Star Belgrade are both listed as potential targets.
Where’s the ambition?
We’re the champions of England. After being forced to watch the Champions League on the tele last year, you would think that we’d be doing all be can to be competitive this term. However, the club appear insistent on targeting second rate players.
That seems unlikely to change anytime soon, despite the departure of influential figure Michael Emenalo.
