Contrary to recent reports, the agent of Chelsea target Jean Michael Seri has claimed that Napoli are not on the verge of signing his client.
Seri has been linked with a move to Chelsea over the past weeks and months. The Ivorian appears to be a genuine summer transfer target. However, it’d be difficult for us to convince him to join us without knowing who our manager will be next term.
There had been suggestions that Chelsea were poised to miss out on Seri due to the precarious nature of our managerial situation. Napoli were thought to be closing in on signing him, with Jorginho set to sign for Manchester City.
However, Seri’s agent has delivered an update on his future, and it doesn’t look as though he will be signing along the dotted line with the Serie A runners-up any time soon. He’s quoted by Team Talk saying:
“Seri to Napoli? It doesn’t depend on us but on Napoli. I read that Napoli are signing Fabian Ruiz, so if they sign the Spaniard, it’ll be difficult to sign Seri too.”
“We’re open to talks with Napoli, but there’s been nothing so far. Seri’s clause is €40m and it’s valid until July 15. After that, Nice can ask for the amount they want.”
This ought to act as a prompt for Chelsea to push forward with their interest in Seri and pay his release clause before a move to another interested party actually does materialise.
