Chelsea’s reported interest in Napoli centre-back Raul Albiol makes even more sense when you learn how affordable his release clause is.

We brought you the news on Thursday that Chelsea had added Albiol to our transfer wish-list. He is only likely to be pursued if Maurizio Sarri takes charge at Stamford Bridge, but would be a shrewd acquisition, despite his age.

Albiol has a great amount of top-level experience. The Spaniard made 118 appearances during his time as a Real Madrid player, before moving to Napoli in search of regular game-time.

After five-years at Napoli, during which he has played 210 times and won two pieces of silverware, he could be set to depart – and on the cheap.

According to Football Italia, Albiol’s release clause at Napoli is just €6M (£5.28M). Despite being 32-years-old, he still has plenty to offer. It’d be a low-risk, potentially high-reward kind of investment.

If Sarri wants him, we should look to get this one over the line as soon as possible.
