Xabi Alonso has now been in place at Chelsea for a week, and the first reports of how the players are getting on with his training sessions are coming out.
Our writer Simon Phillips has the exclusive report from Cobham, where the players who weren’t at the World Cup are already getting to work. He says that the players there are “super impressed” with Alonso’s sessions so far.
Alonso’s sessions a “perfect mix”
We wouldn’t expect anything less – Alonso is one of the most exciting and interesting young coaches around, and we’re still very much in the “honeymoon period” for the players. One source referred to the sessions so far as a “perfect mix of hard work and fun.”
The fact that the former midfielder was so recently a top player himself probably gives him some good insight when designing these sessions. Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer are going to be key players for the new man this season, and they were specifically named as having been “particularly excited working under Alonso already.”
We’re looking forward to our first friendly games, in around ten days, already.
