Chelsea are in pole position to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley in the January transfer window, according to the Telegraph.

Barkley has not featured for the Toffees this season as he continues to recover from a serious hamstring injury. The Englishman, as reported by the Telegraph, was on the verge of becoming a Chelsea player over the summer, but the move never materialised.

The Telegraph believe that Chelsea remain interested in securing Barkley’s services, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has watched him in action since his emergence at Goodison Park.

Early on after breaking into the Everton first-team, Barkley drew inevitable comparisons to Wayne Rooney. Though he has not progressed into even a fraction of the player the Manchester United legend was, the embers of his sky-high potential are still burning.

Ross Barkley
Everton’s Ross Barkley reportedly pulled out of a move to Chelsea at the very last minute.

It’s for that reason that it’s good news from a Chelsea perspective that the Telegraph report that we are leading Tottenham in the race to sign Barkley.

The report claims that we are prepared to pay a fee to sign the 24-year-old, unlike our London counterparts, who are only willing to wait until his contract expires in the summer.

This is one to keep an eye on as the clock ticks away towards the January transfer window.
